Fruits Of Passion - Kiss Me Now 7" (1986)

Kiss Me Now by Fruits Of Passion

LYRICS

Just say the word and I’ll dance again
I’ll be in all your dreams show you what love means
I’ll be everything you’re by my side
Keeping me warm and satisfied

Don’t stop keep me in your arms
Babe, don’t stop moving give me every chance

Just say the word ’coz I’m always there
Thinking about the love we could share

Oh, kiss me now
Tell me that you love and show me how
Oh, kiss me now
You need somebody we need each other now

Do you see what I see
Do you think too much
When you’re watching me
Just say the word

’Coz I’m always there
Thinking about the love we could share

Oh, kiss me now
Tell me that you love and show me how
Oh, kiss me now
You need somebody we need each other now

Oh, I know that it’s easy in a place like this
To mistake heaven for just one night to live
I know that it’s easy to take a look at my face
We can be stronger we can make a world out of space

Oh kiss me now

I’ve given you all your dreams
I’ve shown you what love means
I’ve given you everything
If you can make the same
I’ve given you all your dreams
I’ve shown you what love means

You need somebody we need each other now

Oh, kiss me now
Tell me that you love and show me how
Oh, kiss me now
You need somebody we need each other now

Ngiting Mister Donut: Mister Donut sports a brand new smile

Simple joys can be easy to forget when things get hard and the pace becomes more hurried at work, in school and at home. It could be a crazy deadline or a cranky boss stressing you out. Maybe it’s busy mornings and downtown traffic. But however tough the daily grind gets, there should always be room for some cheer.

The Shining Hour - Long Lost (2006)

Mark Cohen has been recording original songs on his own and as part of Horsham pop duo, The Beat Circus since 1985. Although The Beat Circus split in 1989, Mark continued to record his ideas to a four track Portastudio. During 1991 he decided to pool together some of the many songs he had recorded and put them out under the name, The Shining Hour. This venture was partly inspired by the success of Neale Harmer's own recording project, Fragile.

Mark compiled two tapes for issue, the first of which was 'Evidence'. 'Evidence' sold reasonably well (especially in Europe) but failed to make the necessary number of contacts to ensure worthwhile duplication of the follow-up, 'Resolution'. Apart from issue to a few die-hard fans 'Resolution' and subsequent releases have only had a limited issue.

The Shining Hour now has an ever growing catalogue of releases, the latest being "Long Lost" in November 2006. Although 'Evidence' may have given the idea that The Shining Hour was just jangly pop, selected songs from the 'Electric' tape onwards tell a different story. Songs such as 'Maybe This Time', 'Been In Love Before' and 'So Soon' could be categorised as ballads whilst 'Weak', 'Determined' and 'Run Away' should just be played loud!
In October 1998, Apricot Records released the first ever Shining Hour 7 inch vinyl single. The E.P. entitled "Five O'Clock Rise included the songs; "I Won't Be Home", "Five O'Clock Rise", "Determined" and "Something". See the Single page for more details. In February 1999 Apricot Records released a 15 track CD album entitled "Wait All Summer". This is essentially a compilation of songs chosen from recordings made over the past 10 years. Some of the songs have never appeared before on Shining Hour cassette releases. In April 2002, Apricot Records released the second Shining Hour album, the 12 track CD "Postcards From Home"
.

The Best of The Icicle Works (1992)

To most people, The Icicle Works may stir vague memories of Love is a Wonderful Colour from the early 80s but this CD shows how much more there was to the band. Early classics like Hollow Horse are mixed with newer material such as Evangeline, Who do you want for your love? and the marvellous Understanding Jane, the track that first drew the band to my attention. Best track, though, is the new mix of When it all comes down - still one of my favourite all-time songs. Since the band split, Ian McNabb has produced some great solo stuff and Chris Sharrock has drummed for The Lightning Seeds, World Party, The La's and, currently, Robbie Williams but nothing will beat the strength of these tracks. Check it out and rediscover one of the most neglected bands of the 1980s.

Steve Wickham makes his Waterboys recording debut playing violin on The Pan Within and subsequently joined the band, appearing on the video of The Whole Of The Moon . The Bible - Walking The Ghost Back Home (1986)

The Bible were a UK band with lead singer Boo Hewerdine, best known for their hits "Graceland" and "Mahalia". The band released two critically acclaimed albums in the mid 1980s.

In 1985 Hewerdine and his bandmate Kevin Flanagan from earlier ensemble The Great Divide, formed The Bible, recruiting jazz drummer Tony Shepherd (who had previously drummed for Freddie Starr) and bassist Clive Lawson. The band released the mini-LP Walking the Ghost Back Home in 1986 on the independent record label, Backs Records, giving them a top-ten hit on the UK Independent Chart, staying in the chart for ten weeks. This was followed by the first release of "Graceland" as a single, which gave them a minor hit in the UK, after which Lawson was replaced by Leroy Lendor. After follow-up single "Mahalia", which reached number 15 on the UK Independent Chart, Flanagan left, to be replaced by Dave Larcombe, with guitarist Neil MacColl (brother of Kirsty MacColl and formerly a member of The Roaring Boys) also joining. The album was well received by music pundits, and this brought the band to the attention of Chrysalis Records. Signing to Chrysalis, "Graceland" was re-released as a single in February 1987, but only charted slightly higher than the original release. Greg Harewood joined on bass guitar, replacing temporary member Constance Redgrave, and in January 1988, the band's second album, Eureka, was released. It peaked at number 71 on the UK Albums Chart. Two singles taken from the album failed to chart, but a re-recorded "Graceland" gave them their highest charting single, reaching number 51 in the UK in April 1989. "Honey Be Good" gave them a second hit later that year, reaching number 54.

In 1989, Hewerdine decided to leave the group and pursue solo projects. The remainder of the group renamed themselves Liberty Horses. In 1993, The Bible reformed for a tour and released the Dreamlife EP in 1994.

"Honey Be Good" (From Eureka Album)
"Honey Be Good" (Acoustic Version)

Honey Be good (Lyrics)

To the girl with the gun
I leave my loneliness
To the boy in your arms
I leave you
When you go and you must
My tongue will turn do dust
And goodbye won't mean

a thing

CHORUS
On a day like today
I'll believe anything you say
Who'll be there when your heart
Hits the ground?
Now that I'm not around
Be good, and if you can't be good
Be good at being bad like
Every girl should, honey be good

Now that I stay at home
listening to The Temptations
Singing I wish it would rain

CHORUS

Now that I'm not around

Graceland (Lyrics)

Would I give you money?
I don't know
the free-est things in life are best
and so, put me to the test
now...

And when I die
will you build the Taj Mahal?
wear black every day of your life?
I doubt it

You will never see Graceland...
All my wanting, all my waiting, all my working
all my wickedness
for all my yearning, inside I'm shutting down

You will never see Graceland...

So what am I doing
without you?
Love at second sight would see me through
but not this time

You will never see Graceland...

All my wanting, all my waiting, all my working
all my wickedness
for all my yearning, all my yearning, all my yearning

You will never see Graceland...

The Very Best Of Dexys Midnight Runners (1991)

Dexys Midnight Runners are a British pop group with soul influences, who achieved their major success in the early to mid-1980s. They are best known for their songs "Come On Eileen" and "Geno", both of which went #1 on the UK Singles Chart.

Kevin Rowland (vocals, guitar, at the time going under the pseudonym Carlo Rolan) and Kevin "Al" Archer (vocals, guitar), both previously of The Killjoys, founded the band in 1978 in Birmingham, England, naming the band after Dexedrine, a brand of dextroamphetamine popularly used as a recreational drug among Northern Soul fans at the time. The "midnight runners" referred to the energy the Dexedrine gave, enabling one to dance all night. "Big" Jim Paterson (trombone), Geoff "JB" Blythe (saxophone, previously of Geno Washington's Ram Jam Band), Steve "Babyface" Spooner (alto saxophone), Pete Saunders (keyboard), Pete Williams (bass) and Bobby "Jnr" Ward (drums) formed the first line-up of the band to record a single, "Dance Stance" (1979).

The song was released on the independent Oddball Records, was named "single of the week" by Sounds, and reached number 40 in the British charts, but the next single, "Geno" – about Geno Washington, and released on EMI – was a British Number One in 1980. It featured the band's newest recruits, Andy Leek (keyboards) and Andy "Stoker" Growcott (drums). At age 11, Rowland had been taken by his brother to see Washington perform live. The success of the song prompted Washington to make a return to live performance, and also saw the departure of Leek, who himself cited the "Top of the Pops thing ... people wanting your autograph and that just because you are in the band" The band at this time dressed in donkey jackets or leather coats and woolly hats, and had a look described as "straight out of DeNiro's Mean Streets". Rowland said of the band's sound and look in January 1980: "we didn't want to become part of anyone else's movement. We'd rather be our own movement". Image was very important to the group, with Rowland commenting "We wanted to be a group that looked like something...a formed group, a project, not just random"

The Ocean Blue (1989)

The Ocean Blue, formed in Hershey, Pennsylvania in 1986, is an American indie pop band that combines melodic guitars and synthesizers. Its core original members included David Schelzel on lead vocals/guitar, Steve Lau on keyboards/saxophone, Bobby Mittan on bass guitar and Rob Minnig on drums and vocals.

Its current line-up includes David Schelzel on lead vocals/guitar, Oed Ronne on keyboards/guitar/vocals, Bobby Mittan on bass guitar and Peter Anderson on drums.

The band's sound may be best described as jangly guitar-based modern rock. Influences include such bands as The Smiths, Cocteau Twins, The Chameleons, Echo & the Bunnymen and New Order. The Ocean Blue's earliest shows always consisted of a healthy dose of covers by these bands. To this day, The Smiths and New Order covers still punctuate concert encores.

The Ocean Blue are practically masters of sweet, gentle, vaguely British pop, combining sparkling, jangly guitars with crisp, sweet vocals and thoroughly melodic songwriting. Their self-titled debut lays down the blueprint for this sound, which remained largely unchanged through releases like Cerulean (which sported slightly dreamier production and songwriting) and Beneath the Rhythm & Sound (the band's most polished and pop-oriented effort), falling somewhere between the squeaky-clean pop of the Housemartins and the gorgeous melodic elements of the Cocteau Twins. While its songwriting occasionally falters, and it lacks the sonic cohesion of its two successors, The Ocean Blue delivers on what makes all of the band's work so appealing: simple, beautiful hooks and melodies.

THE OCEAN BLUE LYRICS

BETWEEN SOMETHING AND NOTHING
Words that form a sentence
Words that form a phrase
In a poem or a letter
Could not convey the meaning
Of what this man has done
In a painting
On canvas

As the colors fading
They dictate my mood
Can you see me
Are you near me
I find myself on canvas
I find myself on stage
Can you see me
Are you near me

And I long to know you're real
And I long for you to be part of me
I long to know you're real
And I long for you to be a part of me

In the fading twilight
I sit and stare at her
In all her beauty
Her beauty
You know I have to wonder
Why all great men must die
And leave their treasure
They leave their treasure

VANITY FAIR
Walking strolling down
Down the gallery of memory
Pictures painted there
And it hangs on the wall
Calling out to me
Down the corridor to the left
Pilgrim walk away
Just walk away
Pilgrim beware of Vanity Fair
Pilgrim beware

Window shopping now
Window shopping down at Vanity Fair
Shall we go inside
Go inside and look around
Would you like to buy
The Red Man kindly asks me
Pilgrim walk away
Just walk away
Pilgrim beware of Vanity Fair
Pilgrim beware

Singing, calling out
Echoes of the truth somewhere
A sea of sinking souls
They can't really understand
Vain, it's calling vain
Watch them take another drink again
Pilgrim walk away
Just walk away
Pilgrim beware of Vanity Fair
Pilgrim beware

DRIFTING, FALLING
You may find you're all alone
All around you not a sound
Drifting, falling on your own again
The walls of cold and grey surround
They surround

You may find you're by yourself
Friends have all grown up and gone away
Drifting, falling you can't stop yourself
The walls of cold and grey surround
They surround

Drifting, falling
Watching all your dreams roll by
They roll by
Somewhere out there

She sees you and she sighs
My, my, my, my, my
You may find you're all alone
All around you not a sound

Drifting, falling on your own again
The walls of cold and grey surround
They surround

Drifting, falling
Watching all your dreams roll by
They roll by

Somewhere out there
She sees you and she sighs
My, my, my, my, my

THE CIRCUS ANIMALS
You, the writer, knew
You, the writer cared
Sold, are things once told
Old, are things once bold

The diamonds and the gold
They are for real
Depending on the way they make you feel

We can touch the sky
You, oh you and I
I can count to two
But we can count to three

I line them up and they stare back at me
Creations in the mind and soul of me

Drift
Fall
Blue
Call

You, the writer, knew
You, the writer, cared

The diamonds and the gold
They are for real
Depending on the way they make you feel
Frigid Winter Days

Mr. Jones lives down the lane
He lives alone with his wife Jane
You know his car won't start on frigid winter days
He shovels snow so high on frigid winter days
blow by the, blow by the snow

Professor John gives an exam
Try to pass it if you can
You know he'll send you out to frigid winter days
Out with an 'F' you go to frigid winter days
blow by the, blow by the snow

Ba ba e ya um ba ba bae ya um ba a

Mrs. Smith has gotten old
Her family's gone or so I'm told
You know she stays inside on frigid winter days
she turns her heat up high on frigid winter days
twenty below

So quietly I walk back home
So glad that I am not alone
I love the blue of night on frigid winter days
I love the crystal light of frigid winter days
blow by the blow by the snow

Ba da da da da da da um ba da um ba e ya
Ba da da da um ba da um ba a

JUST LET ME KNOW
First she came right into my life
You know my life wasn't much of a life
Couldn't believe this could happen to me
Who, oh who, could ask for more

Just let me know
Just let me know
What you want from me

You were a friend when I hadn't a friend
One on whom I could always depend
Couldn't believe this could happen to me
Who, oh who, could ask for more

Just let me know
Just let me know
What you want from me

Wish I knew what you were thinking deep inside
Feel, those feelings that you hide
Wish in you I could confide
All my hopes, my fears, my love

First she came right into my life
You know my life wasn't much of a life
Couldn't believe this could happen to me
Who, oh who, could ask for more

Just let me know
Just let me know
What you want from me >

LOVE SONG
I'm in love
My friend's in love
We're both in love
For real

Singing ya oh oh
Ya oh oh
Ya oh oh

Love is kind
It does not boast
It is not proud
At all

Singing ya oh oh
Ya oh oh
Ya oh oh

And love always protects
And love always hopes all things
And love always trusts
And love always is there

Ya oh oh
Ya oh oh
Ya oh oh

I'm in love
My friend's in love
We're both in love
For real

ASK ME JON
Ask me, ask me Jon
Ask me, ask me Jon
How I got here
How I got up here Jon
How I got here

I'm in the bright light now
I'm in the bright light now

Ask me, ask me Jon
Ask me, ask me Jon
How I got here
How I got up here Jon
How I got here

If you don't come my way
Then you don't come my way

I'm in the bright light now
I'm in the bright light now

Ask me, ask me Jon
Ask me, ask me Jon
How I got here
How I got up here Jon
How I got here

If you don't come my way
Then you don't come my way

AWAKING TO A DREAM
No way in
No way out
I'm caught in this limbo-land
Can't go on
Can't go back
I cannot get out of here

Can't go on
Can't go back
I'm caught in this limbo-land
Camera's on
Camera's of
I cannot get out of here

No way in
No way out
I cannot get out of here
Camera's on
Camera's off
It's out on the radio

THE OFFICE OF A BUSY MAN
This is the office of a busy man
Can you hold the line?
In pipes the music you can't understand
Can you change the station?
Is there a message, he's on with L.A.
Big deal in L.A.
You see his time is his money, and his money is time
Can you hold the line?

Do you know who I am?
Do you know who I am?
Do you know who I am?

This is the city of a busy man
It's New York, New York
There's millions of people and it's dog eat dog
Can you taste the smog?
You've got to rush here and you've got to rush there
Don't ask me why
It's the city of dreams, it's the right kind of place
For a busy man

Do you know who I am?
Do you know who I am?
Do you know who I am?

This is the office of a busy man
Can you hold the line?
He is the music you can't understand
Can you change his station?

Do you know who I am?
Do you know who I am?
Do you know who I am?

MYRON
As night was falling down
His horse so swiftly flew
The wind, it beat him down
His outcried words they blew

He cried Myron
Where are you hiding
He cried Myron
Where are you hiding

The rain, it beat him down
The tears from heaven fell
He had to wonder why
But all he did was cry

He cried Myron
Where are you hiding
He cried Myron
Where are you hiding

He went looking for the truth
He went looking for his mom
He went looking for his dad
He went looking for himself

He cried Myron
Where are you hiding
He cried Myron
Where are you hiding

A FAMILIAR FACE
Back in the spring
When I thought of those things
I dodged the questions
I ducked the clouds
There were shadows in my heartland

Back in the fall when I knew it all
The wrong seemed right
And the right seemed wrong
There were shadows in the backyard

Listen boy when he talks to you
Listen to what he says
He wore a familiar face I know
Wake up and take a feel
A familiar face I saw
Wake up and take a feel

Back in the fall when I knew it all
I dodged the questions
I ducked the clouds
There were shadows in my homeland

Back in the spring
I thought of those things
In my mind

Listen boy when he talks to you
Won't you listen to what he says
He wore a familiar face I know
Wake up and take a feel
A familiar face I saw
Wake up and take a feel
